SUMMARY:Webinar: Advocating for Advocacy in Prevention
DESCRIPTION:Advocacy is an important component of substance misuse prevention. Advocacy is a powerful tool that helps to educate and inform policymakers yet is often viewed with some apprehension due to fears of lobbying. SUMMARY:Webinar: The Infinite Game Workshop
DESCRIPTION:In prevention\, there is no such thing as winning and losing. In an infinite game there is only ahead and behind. Of course\, every organization has finite short-term goals\, metrics and wins that show us that we are making progress\, but to what end? SUMMARY:Webinar: Intervention Facilitation: Enhancing Skills and Increasing Efficacy - August 5\, 2021
DESCRIPTION:The Brief Negotiated Interview is at the heart of a brief intervention and is an evidence-based approach to conducting a person-centered conversation to incite behavior change. In this interactive training\, the brief intervention focuses on motivating individuals to reduce unhealthy levels of alcohol consumption or other substance use. \n  \nBased on the brief intervention component of SBIRT (screening\, brief intervention\, and referral to treatment) which utilizes basic Motivational Interviewing (MI) core skills\, this workshop will review and offer practice activities to enhance provider competencies to effectively facilitate a brief intervention and motivate behavior change. \n  \nThis training meets approval for two renewal hours (CASAC\, CPP\, CPS) and two initial hours (CPP\, CPS) through New York State’s Office of Addiction Services and Supports (NYS OASAS). Participants must attend the ENTIRE session\, turn on their video cameras\, and actively participate in order to receive credit. \nhttps://attcnetwork.org/centers/northeast-caribbean-attc/event/brief-intervention-facilitation-enhancing-skills-and-0

SUMMARY:Webinar: Adapting Prevention Interventions to Better Serve Vulnerable Populations
DESCRIPTION:This webinar will discuss adapting prevention interventions to better support underserved and diverse populations in keeping with cultural humility and competence principles. Due to a variety of systematic issues\, many populations have historically not received prevention services tailored to their needs and have had difficulty accessing what services were provided. By adapting evidence-based interventions\, prevention professionals can implement interventions that are a better fit for the specific needs of different populations.  Prevention professionals should assess the conceptual and practical fit of interventions\, and how adaption might improve them. This webinar will discuss these topics\, as well as summarize the evidence base for why adaptation is important for improving outcomes among diverse populations. It will also provide an overview of evidence-based processes for promoting successful adaption outcomes and provide examples of successful adaptions. \nhttps://pttcnetwork.org/centers/central-east-pttc/event/adapting-prevention-interventions-better-serve-vulnerable-0
