SUMMARY:Webinar: Stigma Series Part 2: Debunking the Myths Around Addiction
DESCRIPTION:October 12th 1pm ET  \nSubstance use disorders (SUD) are some of the most highly stigmatized health conditions worldwide\, and stigma creates barriers to early intervention\, screening\, treatment\, and effective recovery. Addressing addiction like a disease instead of a moral failing requires shifts in practice as well as understanding. There is also a significant body of research defining the most effective treatments for substance use disorder (SUD). Yet many myths persist about the nature of addiction and the right ways to treat it. These myths remain due to various factors\, most of which are rooted in deep-set cultural notions of addiction that fail to consider the science behind the disorder. These myths are uniquely harmful as they are often “assumed” to be true and thus considered by some to be self-evident. \nIn this two-part presentation\, participants will learn about addiction myths and misinformation\, including the myth of ”28 days\,” the myth of replacing one drug for another\, and the myth of “rock bottom”.  \nhttps://pttcnetwork.org/centers/central-east-pttc/event/stigma-series-challenging-stigma-surrounding-addiction-part-2

SUMMARY:Webinar- Serving LGBTQIA People - More Than Knowing the Current Lingo
DESCRIPTION:“What if I say the wrong the wrong thing – I don’t want to offend them.” Join this interactive\, learning community conversation where we will explore the limitations of “cultural competence” while providing services to LGBTQIA people. The concept and practice of “Cultural Humility” offers a starting point and a path that offers respect and can build trust between providers and the LGBTQIA people they serve. \nThis training met the requirements for 2 renewal hours (CASAC\, CPP\, CPS) and 2 initial hours (CPP\, CPS) through New York State’s Office of Addiction Services and Supports (NYS OASAS). As an IC & RC member board\, OASAS accredited courses were granted reciprocal approval by the New Jersey Division of Consumer Affairs\, Alcohol and Drug Counselor Committee. SUMMARY:Webinar- Diversity Talk: Using Data for Equity
DESCRIPTION:Using data to drive decision-making is critical to ensuring that behavioral health services improve the lives of all people\, no matter their race\, background\, or circumstance. During the Using Data for Equity webinar on Thursday\, May 26 our partners at Third Sector shared a five-step process of using data to operationalize equity. This Diversity Talk pairs with that webinar and will include three elements: 1) responses to questions from the webinar\, 2) deeper dives into each of the five steps\, including how to address challenges and mitigate risks\, and 3) facilitated discussion and peer learning on using data for equity. Check out the video archive from our May 26 webinar and make plans to extend your learning at this related Diversity Talk.\nhttps://mhttcnetwork.org/centers/new-england-mhttc/event/diversity-talk-using-data-equity \n

SUMMARY:Webinar- Engagement and Innovation Strategies for Youth Substance Use Prevention Messaging
DESCRIPTION:June 14th 130pm ET \nAt one time or another\, most of us have had a conversation with a young person that didn’t quite go as planned. Maybe the topic was uncomfortable\, perhaps the young person didn’t say much\, or you just weren’t sure how to make your message resonate. \nForty-one percent of youth ages 13–18 surveyed in a national assessment by the Getting Candid: Framing the Conversation Around Youth Substance Use Prevention initiative reported never discussing substance use during the COVID-19 pandemic\, and yet forty-four percent of youth in the same survey named health care providers as one of the most trusted messengers for these conversations. \nEffective early intervention has the potential to influence the trajectory of a young person’s life. Hear from a young person and a Motivational Interviewing trainer as they share substance use prevention communication strategies grounded in engagement and innovation using the Getting Candid: Framing the Conversation Around Youth Substance Use Prevention toolkit resources. \nAfter attending this webinar\, participants will be able to… \n\nIdentify the principles of motivation and how to work with ambivalence.\nDescribe engagement strategies that evoke what matters to a young person.\n\n3. Recognize innovative ways of delivering messages through social media.\nhttps://thenationalcouncil-org.zoom.us/webinar/register/WN_DSj9TTznShWvTxEPlxZ7HA?mkt_tok=NzczLU1KRi0zNzkAAAGEcXPl9N_0Y6Cu7cvqxEiz-tSl3CaaxgSY2WEeYvCYYm004HLZ2YHIEQDyeAwqc1F8wgs_FVPXNHpFxoetbvAxNkQL5UuWzLXsl01rXr4rtQ#the-main-content

SUMMARY:"Wiped Out and Still Going" Preventing Compassion Fatigue
DESCRIPTION:Despite the demands that come with a profession in the health and behavioral health care disciplines\, providers are dedicated to their craft and enjoy a deep satisfaction from helping others. The other side of the job brings pressures and stress that can increase susceptibility to exhaustion leading to compassion fatigue and other occupational hazards. The consequences of compassion fatigue can decrease the provider’s emotional and physical well-being\, influence the quality of care they provide for their clients\, and negatively impact the interactions with coworkers and so creating an unhealthy work environment for themselves and others. The current health crisis has had a profound effect on people’s ability to cope for both communities and professionals\, and the need for healthy providers is critical. \nThis interactive webinar will identify and define often elusive work related conditions\, self-assessment tools and practical strategies for self-care and building resiliency. \nThis training meets the requirements for 2 renewal hours (CASAC\, CPP\, CPS) and 2 initial hours (CPP\, CPS) through New York State’s Office of Addiction Services and Supports (NYS OASAS). As an IC & RC member board\, OASAS accredited courses are granted reciprocal approval by the New Jersey Division of Consumer Affairs\, Alcohol and Drug Counselor Committee. Many other states offer reciprocity – please check with your accrediting agency.\nhttps://attcnetwork.org/centers/northeast-caribbean-attc/event/wiped-out-and-still-going-preventing-compassion-fatigue-1 \n

SUMMARY:Foundations to Support Future Prevention Policy Efforts
DESCRIPTION:This interactive discussion will explore how coalitions should be structured so that they are better poised for policy work. We will ask participants to consider how the prevention work they are doing now is amenable to future policy efforts. The session will explore the importance of policy identification based on community need and of coalition readiness to engage in a policy campaign. The discussion will close with an overview of our 10-step policy adoption model. In preparation for this session\, participants will be asked to register for\, and complete\, the brief online course\, “An Introduction to the Power of Policy Change\,” found at healtheknowledge.org. \nhttps://pttcnetwork.org/centers/southeast-pttc/event/webinar-foundations-support-future-prevention-policy-efforts
